That’s right… contrary to popular belief, you can absolutely lose weight and still enjoy Christmas.
It just takes some intent and requires that you take a bit more control of the festive season instead of being swept away with it ….but it can absolutely be done.
And by doing so, you will be going against what the majority of people do which is gaining around 0.5KG of fat between November and February each year, and more worryingly, not losing it again. You will therefore also be avoiding the much larger problem of compounding weight gain 10 years down the line!
So join the ‘One Percent Club ‘ of people who maintain or lose weight this Christmas by following these simple rules and tips.
1.Manage alcohol - Don’t forget to include this in your calorie calculations and set limits for yourself. For the majority of people, the more they drink, the less inclined they are to stick to plan with inhibitions being lowered. It also tends to mess up your sleep making you more likely to lack the will power to stick to plan the following day….so go easy on the booze!
2.Christmas is one day, not a whole month- Avoid getting carried away and treating the whole of December as Christmas. Choose a few days that are important to you to have as 'off plan' days and really enjoy them. But don’t carry this attitude with you for all 31 days as that’s a lot of extra calories! It's bussiness as usual outside of your chosen days.
3.Don’t follow everyone else - Take control of the festive season and make your decision based of the outcome YOU want and not by what other people are doing. Remember, most people aren’t thinking about the state their health and body will be in in January, but you still can (and be very smug about it at the start of 2025!).
4.Mindful eating - A lot of extra calories creep in over Christmas when we stop being mindful and fall into the ‘F*ck it, its Xmas’ mode! Stay in tune with everything you put in your mouth so you don’t suddenly realise you’ve finished the whole box of celebrations, bowl of crisps, or had 6 mince pies by 1pm! Really enjoy any food you do have especially if its something you associate with Christmas time.
5.Be prepared to break tradition - A pattern I’ve seen with lots of clients is they continue to behave as they did as a kid at Christmas with behaviours getting tide up with the idea of traditions e.g. having so much chocolate they feel sick, or eating quality street for breakfast! Don’t be afraid to make new slightly healthier behaviours to reflect the outcomes you want now as an adult and again, these van be different to those around you.
6.Stick to habits outside of your select days- Many people struggle in the days leading up to Christmas and in-between Christmas and New Year because all routine seems to go out the window. If you stick to your core habits and put in structure this sets you up for success. So this might look like continuing to stick to your normal meal structure, continuing to get good sleep and getting that step count ticked off each day.
I hope this helps you navigate your Christmas and please drop any questions to info@onerpercentclub.info and I'll be happy to help.
